Q. I need a job and I just don’t know where to turn, or what to do. Can JobStart help me?
A. Drop into our 2930 Lake Shore Blvd. West location, or our 219 Dufferin St. location and ask to see a Job Coach. One of our qualified staff members will sit down with you and talk about your goals, your experience and help you design a custom tailored plan to make sure you get the specific help you need.
Q. After 20 years at the same job, I was laid off. I just heard about Second Career Strategy. Can you please tell me what is it about, and if I qualify?
A. Second Career Strategy provides laid off workers with skills training to help them find jobs in high demand occupations in Ontario. Second Career is a cost sharing grant based on need. Second Career can provide up to $28,000.00 to cover costs such as tuition, books, transportation and a basic living allowance.
Q. I am interested in an apprenticeship, and I just don’t know how to go about it.
A. At JobStart we have extensive experience helping both youth and adults access apprenticeships. Find out how you can earn as you learn! We have many employer connections in the trades. Come in and talk with us today.
Q. I have just been in Canada for two weeks, and I really need help finding out about how to access settlement services. Can you help me
A. JobStart offers a Newcomer Settlement Program; assisting newcomers to Canada by facilitating access to services such as healthcare, housing, childcare, licensing, educational institutions, as well as employment services.
Q. Do you provide financial assistance with transportation or child care?
A. In some instances we do provide subway tokens. This is something you can discuss when you visit the JobStart office. We do not provide child care services, however can direct you to other community agencies who might be able to help.
Q. Do I have to pay a fee to access JobStart services?
A. JobStart is funded by two levels of government and United Way Toronto & York Region. This means our services are available at no cost for clients who are seeking employment.
Q. I have a disability and I have just graduated from high school and plan to attend college or university. I am finding it very difficult to secure employment. Can JobStart assist me?
A. JobStart delivers a program called Employment Accessibility for Students (EAS) with disabilities.  Our goal is to assist students and recent graduates with a verifiable disability to obtain a part or full time job in Toronto. We work with individuals so that they can more effectively market themselves to employers, secure interviews that could lead to employment.
