Apprenticeship

Apprenticeship is learning by doing. It offers hands-on training that provides access to jobs that demand skills, judgment and creativity.

While you are gaining skills and knowledge as an Apprentice you are paid, and your wages will increase with your increased level of skills.

For the most part apprenticeship training occurs right in the workplace by employers who provide training to standards of skill and safety set by the specific industry. Some training involves classroom instruction on theory, and may be given at a local community college or provided by another approved training organization.

JobStart can make the connection for you…

Jobs for apprentices are seldom advertised. Employers often rely on word of mouth to attract applicants. People who want to become apprentices usually apply directly to an employer, union, or local apprenticing committee and that’s where JobStart can help!!

If you are out of school and out of work JobStart can help you decide if apprenticeship is right for you. Certain individuals may qualify for an Apprenticeship Scholarship as well as Signing Bonuses may be available to employers who hire new apprentices – call or come in to see if you are eligible. Drop in and attend an Apprenticeship Information Session (every second Tuesday morning) or Contact our Job Connect Program at apprenticeship@jobstart-cawl.org
