Career Action for Newcomers (CAN)
Career Action for Newcomers is a 2 week program that provides employment preparation and job search support to internationally trained professionals to find and keep jobs, commensurate with their prior work experience, education and skills. The program allows for customization to a 1 week program to meet individual goals.
Our Program focuses on developing effective job search techniques while also building solid business communications.
Job Development support to clients includes opportunity for:
- Job Placements
- Unpaid Work Placement – Canadian Work Experience
- Mentoring
Who is Eligible?
A person must be:
- Over 25 years of age and legally entitled to work in Canada
- A Landed Immigrant (Permanent Resident) or a Convention Refugee with limited or no Canadian work experience in their profession
- An internationally trained professional with post secondary education and relevant work experience
- Capable of clear communication in English (CLB 7)
Group Sessions will provide:
- Understanding of Canadian culture, employer expectations and workplace practices
- Exposure to computer; including Windows, MS Word and Internet
- Skills for job searching, communicating and interviewing
- Assistance in developing a powerful resume and cover letter
- Mock Interviews
- Individual coaching to develop a realistic employment action plan for job searching
- Exposure to computer; including Windows, MS Word and Internet
- Support by experienced Employment Consultants for up to 4 months
